Best Audio Quality for Transcription
A practical checklist to improve transcription accuracy before you ever hit upload.

Transcription quality starts before the model does. Cleaner audio means fewer retries, less manual cleanup, and faster results.

Record Like You Mean It

  • Get closer to the microphone (distance matters more than “fancy” gear).
  • Avoid rooms with strong echo. Soft surfaces (curtains, rugs) help.
  • If possible, use a dedicated mic or wired earbuds instead of speakerphone.
  • Record in a consistent format (MP3 or WAV) and avoid heavy compression.

Control Noise at the Source

  • Turn off fans and HVAC when possible.
  • Keep laptops away from the mic (keyboard noise is real).
  • Ask speakers to pause before switching topics instead of talking over each other.

Before Uploading to Scriptie

  • Trim long silences if your file is mostly dead air.
  • Split multi-hour recordings into smaller chunks if you want faster feedback loops.
  • Pick the correct language in Scriptie for each file.
